Deep tissue massage is a treatment that improves the tone and alignment of your muscles and the deep connective tissues of your body.
How can deep tissue massage help me?
Deep tissue massage differs from classic massage therapy in that it focuses on manipulating the specific areas where stress and tension linger, and is able to penetrate much deeper into the fascia and large muscle groups to do so.
Deep tissue massage has been successfully used to treat both stress- and trauma-related aches and pains, including upper and lower back pain, stiffness of the neck, and even things like restless leg syndrome and arthritis.
Bands of rigid, often painful muscle tissue called adhesions may form due to injury or stress. These adhesions can limit blood circulation and reduce flexibility, in effect preventing the very things which could resolve them. Deep tissue massage manipulates these adhesions directly, and works them free so that the body’s natural healing systems can get back to work.
Is deep tissue massage painful?
There can be a bit of momentary discomfort during the procedure, but it is usually quite mild. Any lingering stiffness should recede within a day or two, and leave you much more limber and comfortable than before the treatment.
